Once upon a time, I worked in a florist shop. I delivered floral arrangements to happy recipients. I also, processed flowers when they shipped to the store. Processing involved cutting the stems and placing the flowers in warm preservative water.
My favorite flower is the daffodil. When those came in I cut them, put them in water, let them sit for a few minutes, and then transferred them to a fresh container of water. When daffodils are cut they ooze a toxin that makes them wilt.
People can be like daffodils. I like to read those kinds of stories. I write injured characters with toxic lives and help them find a fresh way of living. You may enjoy my series “Woman of the Stone”. A sample chapter is available at https://sites.google.com/site/svfarnsworth/home/sample.

When my wife and I lived in Belize (2008 – 2011) I helped a Taiwanese philosopher whose English was/is limited to prepare his philosophy for the English-speaking regions of the world. His three "Obligations of Wisdom" became the three "commitments" that I ask people to make in my "Myrddin's Heir" series of books:
1. to develop in all children from as early an age as possible a love of learning which becomes lifelong (to nurture the relationship between mind and spirit)
2. to respect difference (to nurture the relationsip between people)
3. to protect the planet (to nurture the relationship between our species and the planet that evolved and nurtures us.
These themes permeate the "Myrddin's Heir" series, in which a group of children are born with special powers and charged with responsibility for making the world a better place http://bit.ly/1ka0iuM
