What’s Your Biggest Brag?

In the world of social media, we share a lot. So, when I went to Bass Pro Shops with my family, I was looking for a photo op. I found this one and it got me thinking.

I’m the antithesis of a liar. That means that everything I say is straightforward. I spent time in South Korea and finally felt like I fit in. Why? Because I can’t do sarcasm and they can’t either. If you’re going to tell a lie there, then it’s in a specific tone of voice and is going to be so huge that it’s obvious that you’re trying to be funny.

This means that my sense of humor is not exactly in sync with mainstream America where I’m from. I’m not sure how that happened, but oh well. I’m quirky and obviously my sense of humor is not my biggest brag, nor is the fish I’m holding in the picture.

My most treasured accomplishment could be that I’m the first person on my father’s side to graduate from High School. I went on to get a Bachelor’s degree. But really, it’s the biggest thing to have taken that first step.

Perhaps, I’m pleased with myself because I have a happy marriage of seventeen years. Or, it could be that I’m thrilled that my husband and I have five talented and intelligent children. Those are accomplishments that took great effort and give me daily joy.

Truth be told, however, I’m the most grateful that I’m not an addict. Huh? Why would I say that? Well, I come from two long lines of substance abusers and I really am the most pleased that I have broken the chain. I didn’t do it on my own. I had the Word of Wisdom to guide me. I had loving parents to show me the folly of their ways. I have an assertive sense of self that gives me the will to be independent. So, that’s my brag. I’m me.
